Twitter Search Overrun By Spammers

Today I attempted to use Twitter Search tool only to discover that Spammers managed to overrun it with Spam based on trending topics. I don’t like to be a doom and gloom but it doesn’t look good for twitter ability to control it. Basically tool became unusable! And here is what I mean… Take a look at image below: As you can see on screen shot out of 7 comments only 2 appear to be a valid Twitter Stream and one of them is in Spanish (I think) – making the search unusable. Looks like spammers identify Trending Topics and then simply post spam messages and include all the trending topics in it to ensure they get as much exposure as possible. I’m interested to see how Twitter will handle it as this can effectively shut down their Search Tool. I’ve been Twittering away lately. Ever since I found out about Twhirl -a free desktop client that allows you to post messages to Twitter without having to visit and log in to the Twitter site – I’ve been able to see the fun & benefits of being an active ‘Tweeter’.

To me, Twitter has become more than just a way to promote my blogs & biz: it has proven to be an excellent resource for valuable info & sites, a great way to build relationships with other marketers ánd – last but not least – a channel to get a quick answer to any questions I have. I found many of my fellow tweeters to be very friendly and always willing to help.

I’m still far from being a Twitter pro: there are millions of things about Twitter and how to optimize my tweets I still need to discover, but I’m learning new stuff every day.

Twhirl – desktop client for Twitter that allows you to tweet without having to log into the Twitter site. Can also display a small popup message whenever one of the people you follow posts a new message.

TweetMyBlog- WP plugin to post your new blog posts to Twitter automatically

Tweetlater – free service that allows you to send a welcome message to your new followers automatically, to send out scheduled Tweets. Tweetlater can even send you a note whenever one of your keywords has been tweeted.
